A study was conducted by Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) and eStatsIndia in 2009. The study revealed that 73 percent of MSMEs in India possess their own websites. Online business to business market places are used by 99 percent of MSMEs for generating businesses.

According to the survey called ICT Adoption Among MSMEs in India, it was estimated that 4,842 orders were generated by the surveyed companies in 2008, and there was a business worth Rs.50.9 crore through B2B e-marketplaces. The study reported that maximum marketing spends are made on internet by the surveyed companies. 45 percent of the total annual marketing budget of the MSMEs in India is spent through online. 32 percent of the total annual marketing budget of the surveyed companies is accounted for print media.

Certain steps were taken for educating small rural enterprises about the connection with customers through internet. They have to be taught that more business can be generated through online. Online usage helps in enhancing more buyers internationally and it also helps in lessening the delivery time. The marketing cost can be reduced by using online means which also increases efficiency.
