Almost after thirteen years, the German auto maker BMW is planning to re-enter the Indian motorcycle market, after the initial attempt, a joint venture with the Hero group with the launch of F650 did not succeed.
The company is studying the high end Indian motorcycle market to introduce its Motorrad bikes. The company is using BMW Motorrad since 1923. The company sources also said that the price of these bikes will be more than 10 lakh in India. It will be a competitor for Suzuki Hayabusa, Honda 1000RR Fireblade, Honda CBR 1000R, Yamaha MT01 and Yamaha R1. The Motorrad bikes are available in G series, F series, R series and K series through out the world. These bikes range from 450 cc capacity to 1300 cc capacity.
BMW officials made clear that it will take another one to two years to finalize anything. The Indian market is expanding in this segment of bikes and this can be proved by the sales of other bikes like Suzuki which sold 93 bikes and Yamaha which sold 94 units in the year 2008.
