The six 2011 sport utility vehicles put under the scanning of The Consumer Reports automotive testing staff were Infiniti QX56, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Porsche Cayenne, Chevrolet Tahoe, Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX, these all are mid sized and large luxury SUVs which have received significant changes for the 2011 model year.
Testers found that the Cayenne which costs $63,805 handles exceptionally well for an SUV while offering a controlled and compliant highway ride. The test vehicle was powered by a 3.6-liter, 300-horsepower V-6 engine and returned an average of 19 mpg.
The large and luxurious Infiniti QX56 costing $63,395 has a 5.6-liter, 400 horsepower V-8 engine mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission. Average fuel consumption was 15 mpg.
The all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee has features like 5.7-liter, 360-horsepower V-8 engine mated to a five speed automatic transmission and the combination returned an average 14 mpg.
The Chevrolet Tahoe LTZ is equipped with 5.3-liter, 320-horsepower V-8 engine, mated to a six speed automatic transmission, returned an average 14 mpg and its cost is $57,435.
The Lincoln MKX has 3.7-liter, 305-horsepower V-6 engine and six-speed automatic transmission and its mileage is 18 mpg.
Ford Edge whose price is $37,635 and has mechanical features like 3.5-liter, 285-horsepower V-6 engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission that sometimes shifted with a jolt. Average fuel consumption is 18 mpg.
