It has become apparent that mass public shootings is becoming more and more common in American society. We can no longer go about our daily lives with the belief that we are safe while out in public. This is because of the birth of the home terrorism by the mentally ill people for some or the other reason. Recently I have met an old friend of mine, who worked as a cop for many years and got retired last year. We had a conversation the current public security scenario in the nation. The following are his views about the public surveillance
He said that he made it a habit of constantly scanning the surroundings for signs of danger or suspicious activity though he is off duty. This comes naturally for Police Officers because the job is all about watching and observing people and our surroundings. He was so concentrated in the job that he turned into a human surveillance camera. When he enters a public place he immediately scans the area immediately. He starts looking for a person or persons who are acting out of the norm for a law-abiding civilian who is in a public place. A person wearing heavy clothing during warm months or someone looking around frantically would be suspicious for him. When you start watching people in public you will see that 99.9% of the people go about their business in the same fashion.
Think of yourself as a walking human surveillance camera. You are walking around the public place and the whole time you are scanning and analyzing people. I was pretty much surprised of what he said. But later on thinking about what he said, I thought he is right to find a suspect before he do something which leaves a dozen families lost their members.
